The 12th of September is National Data Centre Day, a day dedicated to recognising the vital role data centres play in powering the UK's digital economy and meeting the countries AI ambitions.
This date marks the anniversary of when data centres were officially classified as Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) by the UK Government, highlighting their importance in keeping businesses, services, and society connected and providing infrastructure that’s as vital as water and energy.
From enabling cloud computing and AI to supporting essential services like healthcare, finance, and communications, data centres are the backbone of our digital world. Yet, they often go unnoticed.
National Data Centre Day aims to:
This year marks the first-ever National Data Centre Day – a landmark moment celebrating one year since data centres were officially recognised as Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) by the UK Government.
The theme for 2025 is #PoweringProgress – because data centres aren’t just keeping the UK running, they’re driving the innovation, AI, and connectivity that power our digital future.
On the 12th of September, we invite data centre operators, industry professionals, and tech leaders to come together to raise awareness, celebrate the sector’s contributions, and educate the public about why data centres matter more than ever.
